Methodist Children's Hospital opened in 1998 as the only hospital in San Antonio and South Texas designed and built especially for children. Methodist Children's Hospital features the region's only blood and marrow stem cell transplant program offering home for children with leukemia, sickle cell anemia and immunodeficiency syndromes such as SCIDS (severe comprised immune deficiency syndrome). In addition, Methodist Children's Hospital has a complete unit devoted to hematology, oncology and transplants.

The Methodist Children's Heart Institute features a multidisciplinary team of experienced board-certified pediatric cardiologists dedicated to complex congenital cardiac and thoracic diseases, from prenatal diagnosis through adulthood. With six cardiac catheterization suites, the Methodist Children's Heart Institute is the only hospital in South Texas providing interventional and diagnostic procedures including PDA coils, balloon septostomies, balloon dilations and ASD device closures. Cardiothoracic specialty areas include neonatal and infant heart surgery, single ventricle and hypoplastic left heart syndrome, arrhythmia surgery, beating heart surgery, cardiac failure and mechanical support.

Job Summary

This group has been in existence for over 20 years and comprise of 75 physicians and advance practice providers serving six (6) facilities in the San Antonio area. All physicians are emergency residency trained and ABEM.

The pediatric team consists of twelve physicians and 10 advance providers who cover Methodist Children’s hospital. Methodist Children’s is located on the Main Methodist campus in the Medical District of San Antonio. The Children’s hospital is 221 total beds (92 NICU, 24 PICU and 79 Med/Surg). The emergency department averages 60,000 visits per year and is a level III designated trauma center. The ED has 36 rooms with 2 trauma rooms. 40% of the volume is low acuity and 60% general acuity. Higher acuity and most trauma is handled by the University Hospital Level I trauma center located less than a mile away. 10% of hospital admissions come from the emergency department. Admissions are handled by a team of pediatric hospitalists who cover the facility 24/7. The hospital is a training center for 3rd year emergency medicine residents from San Antonio Military. There are one to two residents on site each month who work 13 to 14 shifts each.

The incoming provider will work 16 nine hour day shifts/ eight hour night shift per month for a total of 144 hours per month and 1,728 hours per year. Scheduling is flexible and democratic with each provider having much input regarding their shifts. Each provider has a clinical scribe and the EMR is currently Meditech.

A partnership track is available and the buy-in to partnership has been $1,000. Benefits include short/long term disability, malpractice and an optional health plan. We are open to candidates who are emergency medicine residency trained, ABEM, and either pediatric fellowship trained or experienced in working at a children’s emergency department.
