Aventura Hospital and Medical Center was founded in 1965 as Golden Isles Hospital in Hallandale Beach. The hospital relocated to its present location in 1974 and was renamed Aventura Hospital and Medical center in 1993. The fully accredited 407-bed acute care facility provides award-winning inpatient and outpatient diagnostic, medical, surgical and cancer services.

In order to meet the needs of our ever-growing community we have invested $130 million in expanding and renovating the hospital. The new North Patient Tower features 243 private rooms with private baths, the newest technologically advanced patient care equipment, a 28 bed-Emergency Department, 2 new ICU units, the Surgical Services Suite with 10 new oversized operating rooms, a new Main Entrance and much more.

Job Summary

Seeking Core Faculty for Brand New EM Residency Program in South Florida

About the Opportunity: The Department of Emergency Medicine at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, in collaboration with the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine established a new allopathic Emergency Medicine Residency program July 2016. We are seeking a Toxicology Fellow to serve as Core Faculty to help establish and create a toxicology service and be a vital contributor to both the ongoing development of the toxicology service and our diverse academic faculty. The position will include bedside and phone consultation on the toxicology service, clinical shifts in the Emergency Department, and active participation as a faculty member for the Residency in Emergency Medicine.

Criteria: MD or DO. Successful completion of a Residency program in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM) and fellowship trained in Medical Toxicology.

Aventura Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) is a 407-bed, acute care community hospital providing the residents of Miami-Dade and Broward counties with award-winning inpatient and outpatient diagnostic, medical, surgical and cancer services. AHMC has been nationally recognized as a Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center and an AHCA Comprehensive Stroke Center as well as being an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care amongst other awards and accolades. The Florida Department of Health has designated Aventura Hospital and Medical Center as a Level II trauma center (one of only three trauma centers in Miami-Dade County), admitting over 150 trauma patients a month including adolescents over 15 years old.

The emergency department at AHMC sees approximately 75,000 patients annually with a 30-35% admission rate. The emergency department is staffed by knowledgeable personnel including: emergency nurses, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, social workers, physical therapists, and case managers who participate in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
