Job SummaryThe Obesity Medicine Physician will play a critical role in the educating and counseling both surgical and non-surgical patients in the Weight Treatment Center. He/she will need a thorough understanding of the treatment of obesity and the genetic, biological, environmental, social, and behavioral factors that contribute to obesity to employ interventions, including diet, supplement use, physical activity, behavioral change, pharmacotherapy, and surgery. This role will coordinate with the interdisciplinary team including dietitians, social worker, diabetes educator within the department to develop comprehensive treatment plans. He/she will collaborate with the bariatric surgeons and the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient readiness for bariatric surgery. This position maintains competency to provide pre- and post-surgical care of bariatric surgery patients, promote the prevention of obesity, and be an advocate for those who suffer from obesity. In addition to providing clinical care, the obesity medicine physician will communicate and collaborate among St. Mark’s team to optimize the care of the patient in alignment with St. Mark’s mission, vision, and values.
