Methodist Children's Hospital opened in 1998 as the only hospital in San Antonio and South Texas designed and built especially for children. Methodist Children's Hospital features the region's only blood and marrow stem cell transplant program offering home for children with leukemia, sickle cell anemia and immunodeficiency syndromes such as SCIDS (severe comprised immune deficiency syndrome). In addition, Methodist Children's Hospital has a complete unit devoted to hematology, oncology and transplants.
The Methodist Children's Heart Institute features a multidisciplinary team of experienced board-certified pediatric cardiologists dedicated to complex congenital cardiac and thoracic diseases, from prenatal diagnosis through adulthood. With six cardiac catheterization suites, the Methodist Children's Heart Institute is the only hospital in South Texas providing interventional and diagnostic procedures including PDA coils, balloon septostomies, balloon dilations and ASD device closures. Cardiothoracic specialty areas include neonatal and infant heart surgery, single ventricle and hypoplastic left heart syndrome, arrhythmia surgery, beating heart surgery, cardiac failure and mechanical support.

The director would oversee a well-established, multidisciplinary team in the management of pediatric patients with congenital heart disease. The successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership experience in the management of all forms of congenital heart disease and excel working collaboratively with a clinically integrated network and multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, respiratory care practitioners, other allied health care professionals, and providers from other services to achieve the highest quality cardiac critical care.
About Methodist Children’s Hospital:
The Congenital Heart Surgery Program at MCH performed more than 340 operative procedures in 2014 and enjoys an extensive catchment area and rapidly growing referral base in South and West Texas, with 40% of volume neonates.
The candidate will join a group of 7 experienced pediatric intensivists currently providing care in a combined medical and surgical PICU. Team includes a senior congenital heart surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the field (hospital currently recruiting a second experienced CT surgeon). He/she will be working with a group of 10 pediatric cardiologists with all subspecialty areas covered. Dedicated and highly-skilled cardiac anesthesiologists cover all surgical cases.
The hospital is currently building a new children’s tower which will include a Cardiovascular ICU within multidisciplinary 24 bed pedatric ICU and Telemetry area and 100 bed NICU. The candidate will be expected to be involved in its design and implementation.
The ideal candidate should be BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Anesthesia and have completed advanced training in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care (either via dual fellowships or completion of an advanced cardiovascular intensive care fellowship)
Prefer at least 5 years of pediatric cardiac intensive care experience and evidence of leadership and program building.
